Based on a vast set of archival materials from the funds of the State Archives of the Republic of Crimea, which are being introduced into scientific circulation for the first time, the history of an architectural and urban planning monument, one of the most architecturally expressive private mansions of pre-revolutionary Simferopol – the residential building of a mathematics teacher, accountant of the city administration and member of the city council Vasily Mikhailovich Makurin – has been reconstructed. The fate of the first owners of the house – V. M. Makurin himself and his family – his wife Olga Pavlovna, daughters Evgeniya, Vera, Valeria, Olga and son Georgy – has been reconstructed. Documents from the Central Archives of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation have been attracted. The inseparable connection of the monument and the family of V. M. Makurin with the history of the first university on the territory of the Crimean peninsula – Taurida University (and its successors) is emphasized. After the revolutionary events and nationalization, the mansion was at the disposal of the university for a long time, it housed laboratories and classrooms, and later – apartments for employees. Two daughters of V. M. Makurin, Valeria and Olga, were married to university professors. The first of them, together with the I. V. Stalin Crimean State Medical Institute, was evacuated to the city of Kyzyl-Orda (Kazakhstan) during the Great Patriotic War. The need for restoration work was noted.
