The article analyzes Ilya Ehrenburg’s war correspondences, which he created as a correspondent on the Franco-German front for the Russian newspapers « Utro Rossii» and «Birzhevye Vedomosti». The article considers the transformation of newspaper materials into a literary text – the first prose work «The Face of War». It also examines how the content of this book was transformed during the preparation of various editions, depending on the change in the author’s views expressed in the prefaces and afterwords to the work.
