Abstract and keywords
Abstract (English):
The article continues the series of articles devoted to the description of taxonomic diversity and cataloging of animals represented in the collections of the Museum of the Department of Zoology of the D. I. Ivanovsky Academy of Biology and Biotechnology of the Southern Federal University. D. I. Ivanovsky Academy of Biology and Biotechnology of the Southern Federal University. In recent years, research on the extraction of genetic information from old museum collections has been actively conducted. Zoological collections are an object for study of genetic variability of species, comparative morphological analysis, preparation of regional faunistic summaries, etc. Zoological collections may contain bird species intermediate in morphology and coloration, thanks to molecular methods of analysis identification of hybrid individuals is carried out. Electronic zoological catalogs provide data preservation, accessibility and standardization of information about the museum collection. In this regard, Russia is working on the revision and digitization of the largest zoological collections. As part of the inventory of the collection of passerine birds, 1,214 museum exhibits were digitized. The family of thrushes is the most numerous in the collection of passerines of the museum by the number of species. The aim of the work is to create an annotated catalog of the most numerous family in the museum’s collection. For the preparation of the catalogue, a comprehensive inventory of all passerines of the museum was made, the taxonomic composition was verified, errors and inaccuracies of the information on the specimens were eliminated, new labels were created and the material was systematized. The article presents an annotated catalog of birds of Passeriformes, family Turdidae, which contains information on 21 species and 134 specimens: Turdus ruficollis, T. pilaris, T. torquatus, T. merula, T. iliacus, T. philomelos, T. viscivorus, Monticola saxatilis, Phoenicurus phoenicurus, Ph. ochruros, Ph. erythrogastrus, Erithacus rubecula, Luscinia megarhynchos, L. luscinia, L. svecica, Saxicola rubetra, S. rubicola, Oenanthe oenanthe, Oe. pleschanka, Oe. melanoleuca, Oe. Isabellina This collection contains specimens collected on the territory of the present borders of the Russian Federation, as well as in Abkhazia and Ukraine. The collection dates from 1942 to 1991. The collection is represented by carcasses and stuffed specimens. The catalog contains information on the internal museum number for each specimen, Latin and Russian name, sex of the specimen, type of stored material, country where the collection was made, region, detailed place of collection, date of collection, collector and preparator, condition, and also contains various kinds of notes. According to the results of the inventory, the most abundant species in terms of number of specimens is Black Thrush (T. merula) with 21 specimens, Song Thrush (T. philomelos) with 20 specimens, Common Nightingale (L. luscinia) with 15 specimens. The three most numerous regions in terms of the amount of sampled material are: Rostov region, Krasnodar region, Stavropol region. Over the years, the collection has undergone many changes, including negative ones: some specimens became unusable as a result of pests of natural science collections, some labels were lost. Meanwhile, unique specimens collected by leading specialists have been preserved until today: B. A. Kazakov, V. S. Petrov, A. V. Lerhe, B. A. Nechaev and others. The collection is a valuable scientific material for further research and is actively used in the study of the diversity and characteristics of birds in the educational and practical work of university students. It allows to get acquainted in detail with morphological features of the studied objects, the degree of their individual, age, sex and seasonal variability. The creation of the electronic database optimized the solution of a number of tasks of the museum staff. The publication of the obtained data is intended to make the Museum’s collection more accessible to all interested specialists.
