Risk is an integral part of any management activity and is inevitably associated with political activity in the system of functioning of public authorities. A deep understanding of the nature of political risks and ways to inuence the sources of political risk allows minimizing the costs of their elimination. The conducted research aimed at understanding political risks allows expanding the possibilities of regulatory activity in those issues where the risk factor was previously considered as an objective, unaected given. The essence of political risk is formed and applied within the framework of several theoretical traditions, which ultimately entails its polysemic application. This is due, rstly, to an extensive scientic discussion about the nature of risk, and, secondly, to the initial formulation of the problem of political risks in the narrow subject eld of economic knowledge. Subsequent appeal to the problem determined the evolution of the concept of political risk, which also complicates the primary analysis of its meaning. Political risk is a complex, fuzzy and debatable concept. It can be dened as a decision and action (or inaction) in conditions of uncertainty with a clear understanding of the possibility (danger) of negative consequences. Understanding the nature, sources, causes and factors of risk serves as a theoretical basis for developing a risk management strategy, allows not to avoid, but to manage them and minimize losses when they are realized. The applied signicance of knowing the essence, causes and forms of risk manifestation is that it allows you to purposefully inuence the prevention or minimization of trouble and severe consequences of loss in the event of their implementation.
