based on the analysis of archival sources and literature, a comprehensive study of one of the oldest Russian sects – the Molokan sect – in Taurian province is carried out. Its origin and etymology of the name are studied, the most probable interpretations of the sect’s name are given, its emergence in Taurian province is revealed, the activity of its leaders and the geography of its spread are described. The basics of doctrine in the context of different currents and interpretations are presented, the attitude to the official authorities of the Russian Empire is revealed. The social and legal status of Molokans is described on the example of the main restrictive measures taken against the Molokans of the Taurian province, the government policy towards them is analyzed, the main occupations and everyday life are described. Migration processes in the sectarian environment are considered, statistical data are presented. The reasons and order of resettlement of Taurian Molokans to Transcaucasia in the middle of XIX century are described.
