Abstract (English):
The work examines the issues of expressing deontic modality in English, Crimean Tatar and Arabic, as well as the issues of the functioning of modal words, modal verbs in the languages under consideration: “ability”, “permission”, “should” and “possibility”. At the same time, we examined examples of translation from English into Crimean Tatar and Arabic of sentences demonstrating deontic modality and corresponding to the English modal verbs «should», «can» and «must/may». As practice shows, the most commonly used are «استطاع» (to be able, to be able) and «أمكن» (to be possible) as equivalents of the modal verb «can», «وجب» (to be obligatory, to be a duty), «ينبغي» (should, it is necessary, it is necessary) and «على» (the preposition «na» entering into combination with personal pronouns) are most often used to convey the meanings of such verbs as «should», «can» and «must/may». As for the choice of translation correspondences, in this case it is necessary to start from the context, which plays a major role in the choice of a modal verb, since it completely depends on the subjective assessment of the speaker, emotional load and expression. Among the most commonly used modal words of the Crimean Tatar language are: «kerek», «mumkyun», «belki». It is obvious that the main problem that a translator faces in the process of translating modal verbs is finding a suitable meaning of a modal verb or other means.
