The article attempts to conceptualize the mythopoetics of Arkady and Boris Strugatsky’s work as a key phenomenon of late Soviet literature of the 1970s-1980s. On the basis of the analysis of the existing literary-critical and scientific reception of their works with an emphasis on the works revealing mythopoetic aspects of the writers’ prose, the conclusion about the expediency of such a statement of the problem is made. The genetic connection of the artistic features of Strugatsky’s works with the traditions of the Silver Age, as well as with the reception of philosophical ideas of the turn of the XIX–XX centuries is demonstrated. The hypothesis is put forward that Strugatsky’s works are similar to other phenomena of late Soviet literature (such as “village prose” and works by Ch. Aitmatov) due to the apocalyptic pathos, which causes the use of similar means of artistic expression: biblical images and plots, natural symbolism
