В статье рассматриваются малоизвестные страницы биографии российского археолога Н. И. Репникова в начале 1930-х гг., когда он был арестован и два месяца провел в заключении. В это время коллега по ГАИМК А. А. Миллер написал резко отрицательный отзыв о его научной деятельности, даже обвинив Н. И. Репникова в торговле древностями. Основной причиной такого скептического отношения к научной деятельности Н. И. Репникова являлась конкуренция школы палеоэтнологов, к которой принадлежал А. А. Миллер с учениками А. А. Спицына. Таким образом, на сложную идейно-политическую обстановку начала 1930-х гг., в которой оказались советские археологи, оказывали немалое влияние еще и взаимоотношения между различными группами ученых внутри научного сообщества.
